The purpose of this display is to show the public the overall philosophy for reconstruction of the 94-mile IH 35 corridor through the Waco District. It is not the objective of TxDOT to have 94-miles of IH 35 under construction at one time. The objective is to have several projects under way at once, but to always provide relief between the projects so that the traveling public could resume normal travel for some distance prior to re-entering another construction zone.

On the far left of the display, in the upper corner, the years are shown from 2000 to 2012. Projects are shown from left to right in yellow, red and orange blocks, which give an idea of when those projects would start and when they would finish.

Yellow projects indicate initial projects where we could replace bridges going over IH 35 without the need to acquire additional right-of-way. For example, on the left-hand side of the display, the yellow indicates a project to replace structures at North Prairie Dell, FM 2115, and FM 2268 in year 2002.

The red indicates frontage road projects on either the east or west frontage road. We could go to construction on these projects once acquisition of right-of-way on one side of the project's limits is complete. For example, on the left-hand side of the display, the red indicates a project to construct the East Frontage Road in year 2003.

The orange indicates the reconstruction of the freeway mainlanes. Upon completion of that project, the expanded freeway would be opened to traffic. For example, on the left-hand side of the display, the orange indicates a project to begin construction of the six mainlanes in year 2004, ending in year 2007.

The final schematic is blue for the entire 94-mile corridor and is shown to be completed in late 2001. The second public meeting is indicated pink and is shown to be completed in 2000. The down-arrows indicate the limits for which the construction would take place. The green block shown in the Waco area indicates that, at the time of the initial public meeting, that section had not been divided into individual projects. Construction could begin as soon as 2005 and conclude by year 2012.
